Sydney Thrun and Isha Abraham participated in New Jersey Youth Leadership Corps merit-based scholarship expedition in July 2025. It was a 14-day leadership development and skill-focused expedition within the Delaware Water Gap. The expedition was split between 1-week of canoeing in the Delaware Water Gap and 1-week of hiking 40 miles of the Appalachian Trial.

My time on the expedition gave me the opportunity to push myself in so many different ways. I got to explore and appreciate nature fully while I was out there and I will continue to hold that respect and appreciation for nature. I had the chance to meet people that I will always share a unique experience with and be friends with for many more years. This trip pushed me out of my comfort zone in so many different ways, but I have brought back awesome memories and a sense of courage that will lead me through my life.
The Outward Bound Expedition was the first time I had ever slept away from home and it was a wonderful experience. There were some challenges, but overall it was something I will never forget or regret. I met the most amazing people, course mates and instructors. I was able to learn a lot about myself throughout the course. Additionally, the course fueled my passion for wanting to be outside. Now, I often go on bike rides and the occasional canoeing whenever I have free time.

We are both very grateful for the opportunities and experiences Outward Bound was able to provide us. Now, it is our time to give back. Please help us support Philadelphia Outward Bound!
